As per the statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the raw steel production by the country dropped further by 1.1% during the week ended January 2nd, 2016. The production had declined sharply by 4.4% during the week prior to this.
The total domestic raw steel output during the week ending January 2nd was 1,440,000 net tons. The AISI data indicates that the US raw steel production has declined significantly by 1.1% during the week. This is in comparison with the previous week (ie., the week ended Dec 26th) production figures of 1,456,000 net tons. Also, the weekly output represents a sharp decline of 19.9% in comparison with production of 1,798,000 net tons during same week the previous year.
The capability utilization rate of US steel makers declined to 60.2% during the week ended Jan 2nd, 2015.
The capacity utilization rate has dropped sharply when compared with 60.9% during the previous week (ie., the week ending December 26th). Also, capacity utilization was considerably lower when compared with the rate of 75.1% during same week the previous year.
