Vitkovice Steel may be moved to Russia

Mr Jiri Cienciała, the government commissioner for the Moravia Silesia and Usti regions said that there is a danger that the Czech operations of steel maker Vitkovice Steel will be moved to Russia and that almost all their staff will be dismissed.

The report describing also other social risks in Moravia Silesia, north Moravia, and the Usti Region, north Bohemia will be discussed by the government.

Vitkovice Steel said in the middle of February that it will close its steel plant as of September 30th 2015 and lay off between 200 and 250 people.

Mr Dmitry Shchuka board chairman of Vitkovice Steel said that then the company’s other plants will continue to operate. The steel maker employs about 1,000 people.

Mr Jaromir Krisica spokesman of Vitkovice Steel said that “This information is not true and we consider it to be absolute nonsense.”
