Taiwanese HMS 1/2 80:20 containerized scrap import prices ease to $358 a ton

Taiwanese HMS 1/2 80:20 containerized scrap import prices (CFR Taiwan Port) eased by $2 a ton week-on-week to $358 a ton in the week ended June 27th this year, as per the latest figures released by The Steel Index.

Taiwanese HMS #1&2 80:20 prices eased last week, after increased offer prices served to curb demand from steel mills, who are seeing buyers resisting cost-push.

Indeed, some mills in Taiwan have switched from melting scrap to re-rolling billets (of Chinese origin), making the calculation that it is cheaper to use semis produced from iron ore than to fire up the furnace.

Equally, Taiwanese scrap importers have been scouring the world for lower-priced material, all of which served to weigh on transacted prices last week.
