In the 1st quarter of 2014, compared with the equal period of the previous year, the apparent volume of imports of stainless steel seamless tubes dropped 47.5% to only 2,128 tons.
The major imported products were cold-deformed seamless tubes (customs code 730441). Their share in the 1st quarter accounted for over 59.3% out the overall supplies (in Q1 2013 – 45.9%).
The top suppliers of this type of stainless steel products were: Ukraine, which share accounted to 48.7% out of the overall supplies (in Q1 2013 – 32.8%), China – 25.4% (9.8%), South Korea – 8.4% (0.4%), India – 7.2% (0.1%), Malaysia – 3.6% (49.4%).
To remind, the imports of this type of stainless steel tubes are imposed with customs duty (12.5% of the customs value) and a limiting quota, in addtion to that, the imports from Chima are burderned with an anti-dumping duty of 19.15%.
Despite these limitations, the imports of tubes from China in the 1st quarter rose 76.1%. The reason to this growth is in a lower price. The imports from Ukraine rose 0.6%, South Korea – more than 15 times, India – 91 times. The tubes, produced in Korea and India, are exempted from the quota. The imports from Malaysia fell 95.1% after they had falled under the quota.
