The mystery of the stolen valves is about to become an open-and-shut case.
Horizon Metal officials called police Monday when a man tried to sell some large stainless steel valves that are similar to some stolen from Bay Valve Service in Longview late last month.
Between four to five valves, worth $2,500 each, were reported stolen after someone cut through a fence at Bay Valve, 213 Douglas St. Bay Valve had provided area metal recyclers with pictures of the stolen valves.
When Horizon Metals workers questioned the man with the valves Monday, he ran off, leaving the valves and his van behind at the Longview recycling business, located at 620 California Way, according to dispatch reports.
Police have a suspect name and are now searching for the man.
