Mild steel pipes

Mild steel, on the other hand, is a variety of steel alloy that is comprised
of high amounts of carbon as one of its major constituent. If you don’t know
what an alloy is, it basically is a mixture of metals as well as non-metals
which are designed to have very specific properties. Mild steel differs from
stainless steel through its chromium content. Stainless steel contains a more
significant amount of chromium when compared to mild steel or ordinary carbon.
As for its properties, mild steel is known to show a gradation when it comes to
strength, malleability, ductility as well as the other physical properties of

Mild steel pipes and is one of the low carbon steel pipes with low carbon
content and the lesser hardness. Plus a small amount of pearlite microstructure
of ferrite is characterized by low hardness (HB 100-130), low intensity (σb 372
~ 470MPa) and high plasticity (δ 24 percent to 36 percent), and formability and
good weldability.

The mechanical properties of mild steel pipe
Mild steel
(hot rolled bars) has a apparent yield point, before clear signs of the
destruction (large deformation, elongation) is a ductile failure.

Mechanical properties of hard steel pipe
Hard steel (heat
treatment of steel and high strength steel wire) is with high strength, but poor
plasticity, and brittleness. From the load to suddenly pull off, virtually
non-existent yield phase (flow increase). Is a brittle failure.

The most frequently used mild steel are ASTM A-106 & A-S3. A-106 comes
under both A & B grade and is used for cold or close coiling.

Mild steel contains carbon alloy of 0.16 to 0.29% and is therefore not
ductile. The mild steel pipes hardness of the mild steel could be increased
through carburizing in which the steel is heated below melting point in presence
of another material and again by quenching, the outer surface of the carbon
becomes harder maintaining a soft core.

The different variations of carbon steel pipe fittings and pipes are measured by their percentage of carbon content that
has been mixed with iron. Here is a quick list of the categories:

Mild carbon steel: 0.05-0.15
Low carbon steel:
Medium carbon
steel: 0.30-0.59
High carbon steel: 0.60-0.99
carbon steel: 1.00-2.00

Mild steel pipe Availability and usages:
Mild steel is
available in a variety of structural shapes that are easily welded into pipe,
tube, tubing etc. Mild steel pipes and tubing are easy to fabricate. The life
expectancy of such steel could go up to 150 years if it is well protected. Mild
Steel pipes and tubing are used for structural purpose and mechanical &
general engineering purpose. It is also used for drinking water supply and the
use of chlorination and sodium silicate inhibit corrosion in mild steel
